Faroe Islands – 5 days in your own car

Faroe Islands in own car

5 DAYS (4 nights) INCL. FERRY AND HOTELS

The road network in the Faroe Islands is very well developed and it is easy to get around; 80% of the islands are connected by bridges and tunnels. Every guest should plan the day’s program according to the weather as the weather can be completely different, where you are in the islands.

Only you and the weather set the pace on this trip.

We have designed this package so that you get the opportunity to see most of what the islands can offer – see suggested trip below.

A unique nature, but also so much else; you can explore the world and the smallest capital in the world, the world’s oldest parliament “Tinganes”,

Europe’s probably best preserved old town “á Reyni” spared the devastating fires, probably the world’s oldest timber building “Roykstovan” from the year 1050, the ruins of the “St. . Magnus Cathedral”

and the Faroe oldest church “Ólav’s church” from 1111 and “Enniberg” Europe’s second highest promontory at 788 meters.

Faroe Islands is an experience of a lifetime; Islands have a unique nature, a rich history and a rich culture. The changing weather with rain, mist, heat and sunshine adds breathtaking natural beauty and stunning colors, as well as meeting with many hospitable inhabitants; a substantial part of the experience. There are birds and sheep, pristine nature and isolated settlements.

Day to day program …

Sunday
After one and a half days in the state ship M/S Norrøna arrive late evening and your room is ready at Hotel Djurhuus,

located a short distance from the ferry.

Monday

Today’s excursion is going to the Northern Islands signs; first north to the Faroe northernmost village Viðareiði where the trained have the chance to climb Europe’s second highest promontory “Enniberg” and enjoy the unique view of Fugloy and Svínoy.

After Viðareiði run through the dam to Kunoy where we suggest a hike in the idyllic orchard.

On the way back to your new “home” in Tórshavn, we suggest that you stop at the Viking settlements in Leirvík.
We suggest that on the return you drive past the village of Oyndarfjørður and see the peculiar “Rolling Stones” (Rinkusteinar), where legend has it that an old sorceress two pirate ships, so that they turned into stone and forever must stand by the shore and rock restlessly back and forth. Also visit the church with the distinguished altarpiece by the Danish painter Eckersberg.

Night at Hotel Klaksvík.

Tuesday
Having been one day on the Northern Islands we now go to the islands of Eysturoy.
We suggest that you take a detour to the idyllic village Tjørnavík

where we recommend getting chilled toes by a hike on the sandy beach. In Tjørnavík visible traces of the Vikings. We also think that Saksun

is worth a visit – visit the church and museum Dúvugarður. Between Eiði and Gjøgv passes below the highest mountain Slættaratindur

with its 882 meters.

Accommodation at Gjáargarður.

Wednesday
This day goes towards the capital.
We suggest that you visit the village Vestmanna and from there the boat to the amazing bird cliffs north of the village.

From Vestmanna you continue to the island of Vágar, where the church in Sandavágur,

the war museum and Kálvalíð curtainly is worth a visit. Then proceed to the unique and isolated settlement Gásadalur and here see the stunning waterfall and the view of Mykines and Tindhólmur.

Night stop at Hotel Djurhuus.

Thursday
Church visit might be an idea this Sunday morning or a visit to the islands’ ancient cultural centre Kirkjubøur where you can see the ruins of St. Magnus Cathedral, Europe’s oldest inhabited wooden house Roykstovan and church from the year 1111.

We suggest that you use this first evening to explore the Old Town of Torshavn; Fort Skansin Tinganes

and á Reyni. The dinner we suggest you eat at Restaurant Barbara (fish)

or Restaurant Áarstova (lamb).
