Day 2; Eysturoy

Today you’ll take a full-day excursion to Eysturoy.

You drive from Torshavn to Eysturoy via the only underwater tunnel in the world that has a roundabout under the sea.

On Eysturoy, we leave the tunnel at Strendur and drive via the western arm of Skálafjørður, the longest fjord in the Faroe Islands. The first stop on the tour is at the village of Elduvík, where you will see wonderful nature and hear interesting stories.

From Elduvík the tour goes via Funningsfjord, past the village of Funningur, where the sagas say the early Nordic settlers arrived and built their homes around 800 AD.
Over Funningur on the way to Gjógv you will stop at the viewpoint Hvíthamar and a short (15 minute) hike to one of the most stunning views in the country.
From there you drive down to the village of Gjógv where you walk around the beautiful gorge, hear stories and see the church.

From Gjógv you drive under the highest mountain in the Faroe Islands, Slættaratindur (882 meters) and stop at the viewpoint Risin & Kellingin (The Giant and the Witch). These 2 freestanding rocks are said to be 2 giants that would pull the Faroe Islands over to Iceland.

Next stop is Café Rose in Ljósáir, where you’ll have a nice lunch and get some rest.

After lunch, drive through the mountain and the opposite side of Skálafjørður to the southernmost point of Eysturoy, where there are wonderful views across to Tórshavn and the east side of Nólsoy.

From there it’s a short drive to a local sheep farm where a local farmer will show you some Faroese sheep and tell you about sheep farming in the Faroe Islands. From there, you’ll head to the Navia wool shop where you’ll have the opportunity to buy some Faroese knitwear and yarn before heading back to Tórshavn through the tunnel again.

Attractions: Elduvík, Funningur, Gjógv, Ljósáir, local sheep house
Accommodation: Hotel Djurhuus

Day 3; Vágar

Today you are going on a full-day excursion to Vágar.

First you will drive out of Tórshavn and stop at Viewpoint Tórshavn for pictures of the city from above.
Then you will drive to the Norðadalsskarð viewpoint and enjoy magnificent views of Norðadalur, Koltur Island and Trøllhøvdið islet.
From there you will stop at the Mjørkadalur viewpoint and enjoy stunning views of Kaldbaksfjørður.
After a short drive you will stop at the Kollafjørður viewpoint before stopping at the EFFO station for a free cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate before driving through the Vágatunnel.

From Kollafjørð, drive to Sandavágur to visit the beautiful church.

Then drive straight across the island to Gásadalur, the remote village with the most photographed waterfall in the Faroe Islands, Múlafossur.
After enjoying the beautiful and peaceful surroundings of Gásadalur and a homemade packed lunch, drive to Bøur for a short stop to take pictures of the amazing Tindhólmur with its many peaks.

From Bøur you will be taken to the War Museum, located in the old war buildings next to the airport – then we drive to Sørvágsvatn viewpoint and see the unique Nykurin statue with its history.

After visiting the largest lake in the Faroe Islands, you will be driven to Miðvágur, from where an OPTIONAL EXTRA hike to Trælanípan starts. This easy to moderate hike takes 3 hours out to the incredible viewpoints of Trælanípan, the Bøsdalafossur waterfall and the “lake above the sea”.

From there, the bus will take you back to Tórshavn and drop you off at your hotel.

Day 4; Suðuroy

Today you have a full-day excursion to Suðuroy.

Early in the morning we depart from Tórshavn with the ferry M/F Smyril. This is the largest inland ferry in the Faroe Islands. The sailing time is two hours to the southernmost island of Suðuroy.

The journey passes the islands of Sandoy, Stóri Dímun (inhabited by just one family) and the uninhabited Lítli Dímun.

Upon arrival in Suðuroy, we start by driving to the village of Tvøroyri. There, the guide will tell you the history of the place and you will see some rare rock formations.

After departing Tvøroyri, we drive to the village of Hvalba. This is one of the most beautiful villages in the Faroe Islands. From there, the scenic route takes us to the northernmost settlement on Suðuroy called Sandvík.

After spending some time in Sandvík, we head south to a settlement called Fámjin. The original Faroese flag is located inside the old church there.

The journey goes all the way to the southernmost settlement of Sumba. Along the way we pass the villages of Vágur and Lobra.

After exploring the settlement for a while, we’ll take a different route back from Sumba, taking us past stunning cliffs and the scenic and historic villages of Porkeri and Hov.

Then we drive back to the Smyril ferry and sail back to Tórshavn.
(Note: Some waiting time on the ferry can be expected!)

Included in this tour are ferry tickets, entrance fees, food and drinks.

Geysir is one of Iceland’s largest natural attractions and a rare natural phenomenon. The Geysir area features the active Strokkur, which explodes a 40 meter high water fountain into the air every 5-10 minutes.
